TANJUNG SELOR – The Provincial Government of North Kalimantan (Kaltara), signed a joint agreement (MoU) with PT Global Eco Rescue Lestari on accelerating collaborative conservation and restoration of mangrove and peatland ecosystems to support the jurisdiction of enchanced-National Determined Contribution (E-NDC).
The signing of this agreement marks one step closer to achieving the commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and E-NCDs in East Kalimantan. This was conveyed directly by the Governor of West Kalimantan, Drs. H. Zainal Arifin Paliwang, S.H., M.Hum when delivering his remarks at the activity held on Friday (21/7/2023).
He said, this agreement is a great opportunity for Kaltara, especially in carbon trading. He explained, currently the area of Kaltara mangrove forest reaches 262,318.75 Ha and the area of peat hydrological units reaches 347,541 Ha.
“Of course it is a big advantage for Kaltara. Not only contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but becomes an opportunity for carbon trading,” he said.
On that occasion, he also hoped that the purpose of signing this MoU would strengthen collaborative mangrove and peatland restoration and conservation governance.
Second, to improve sustainable alternatives to livelihood projects for local communities and third to restore and rehabilitate mangrove areas and peatland ecosystems and strengthen reporting-verification monitoring, knowledge management can be achieved.”Hopefully the green economy within the framework of green growth can deliver Kaltara more advanced and prosperous,” he concluded.
